Nisha Jones Mohorn, 91, of 217 Hickory Drive, Halifax, NC, passed away at home on April 13, 2010 surrounded by her caring family.

Nisha was the oldest daughter of Isaac Edmond and Jabez Mobley Jones and was born in Duplin County, NC. She has resided in Halifax County since 1937. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Talmadge, Carl and Murdic Jones; sister-in-law, Peggy Tooley Jones; and brother-in-law, Bill Shanklin.

She is survived by her son, Bentley Jones Mohorn and his wife, Betty Ann, of the home; three brothers, Osborne and his wife, Elizabeth, of Northfield, NJ, Dallas of Colonial Heights, VA, Forrest and his wife, Ellen, of Halifax; six sisters, Velma J. Shanklin of Roanoke, VA, Susie J. Clizbe of Halifax, Opal J. Loflin and husband, Donald, of Maryville, TN, Hazelene J. Medlin and husband, Bob, of Littleton, Eudene J. Freuler and husband, Bill, of Littleton, Eleanor J. Hales and husband, Ronnie, of Halifax; two sisters-in-law, Lois D. Jones of Greenville, NC and Anita E. Jones of Emporia, VA; two step-granddaughters, Koy Green and husband, Bill, of Casper, WY and Emily McIlquham of Wilson, NC; three step-grandsons, Ilias, Joshua and Gabe Green of Casper, WY; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nisha was a graduate of Aurelian Springs High School, Class of 1941, and School of Cosmetology in Norfolk, VA. She worked there for several years before returning to Halifax County where she was employed at Glamour Beauty Salon in Weldon until her retirement. In her 62 years as a licensed beautician, she was a member of the NC Cosmetology Guild and became close friends with many of her customers.

She was a charter member of Community Center Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member until her death. The family would like to thank Community Home Health and Hospice, and Jessica Purnell for her loving care of Nisha.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Tim Merki and Rev. Billy Howell officiating. A private family burial will follow later at Crestview Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
